Our BIG Day!

The other blog has a couple pictures to support this post, but I wanted to express how grateful I am that things are going so well for the boys.

To start, Owen is now IV free and his bilirubin levels are getting really low (that's a good thing!) and the jaundice is going away quickly. He'll probably be under the lights for a few more days, but he's making significant progress every day.

The other big step today was that Eli is now in a big boy bed! He doesn't need the incubator anymore, so he's in a normal bassinet (wearing extra layers to help regulate his temperature, but still!) My hunch is that he'll have to go under the bili lights too (which would put him back in an incubator), but it was so exciting to see him out in the open tonight!

The last piece of VERY exciting news is that they are both getting the hang of nursing! Last night, they both fed for about 20 minutes and didn't wake up until their next feeding, which means that they took in enough to satisfy their hunger. Owen did the same thing again tonight! That's probably the most satifying thing that has happened yet. It's tough (in a way that isn't even explainable with words) to leave your babies at the hospital, but being able to feed them helps me feel like I'm taking care of them even though they are in the hospital.

This was a day of great news - I just had to share : )
